Dan Walsh
Born 1960, Philadelphia. Lives and works in New York.
Dan Walsh explores perceptions of color and space through the use of linear, but irregular, geometric patterns. The artist allows his freehand strokes to deviate from formal perfection and introduce suggestions of living forms. His juxtaposition and layering of color creates depths and volumes that cause his shapes to hover over or recede into the picture's surface.
Walsh's work has been exhibited in national and international venues, including the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York and PS1 Contemporary Art Center in Long Island City. His prints and limited-edition books were the subject of a one-man exhibition at the Cabinet des Estampes du Musée d’Art et d’Histoire, in Geneva. He was also included in the Ljubljiana Biennial, Slovenia, and the Lyon Biennial of Contemporary Art, France.
