Bai Yiluo
Born 1968, Luoyang, Henan Province, China. Lives and works in Beijing.
Bai Yiluo's photographic montages juxtapose the dialectic between the individual and the collective. He is a self-taught photographer who appropriates photo identification images of Chinese individuals and digitally manipulates them to create composite works on paper and 3D sculptures that depict cultural icons from both Chinese and western culture. These reinterpretations by the artist assert and critique the disparate link between the anonymous figures whose faces comprise his raw material and the symbols they collectively represent.
