Throughout his career, artist Robert Mangold has married drawing and painting in a personal investigation of pure abstract form and color. Printmaking plays a pivotal role in his work, coming at the juncture where line studies are fleshed out with color and texture.

In this rare video interview, Mangold speaks about the creation of his 2015 etchings, Double Square Frame I & II which he made concurrently with the paintings of the same title. Beyond the translation of an image from drawing to print and painting, Mangold also offers insights into the sources and influences of his imagery.

Double Square Frame I & II are on view at Pace Prints, 521 West 26th Street through June 23, 2017.

Mangold's recent paintings and works on paper are also on view at Pace Gallery.
