The papermakers at Pace Paper have collaborated with sculptor Leonardo Drew for over a decade and throughout this collaboration the dialogue between the intense materiality of Drew's vision and the technical virtuosity of the papermakers has expanded the possibilities of what paper can be. As Pace Paper director Akemi Martin says in this interview on their shared history, "Traditionally, paper is the background of the artwork. The paper is supposed to be invisible. But with these pieces, the paper is the [art]."
Leonardo Drew's latest solo exhibition is on view at Pace Prints through November 6, 2021.
