Santi Moix: On som ara?

 – , 2016

Pace Prints is pleased to present an exhibition of new monoprints by Santi Moix at its 32 East 57th Street Gallery, on view March 3–April 2, 2016, with an opening reception on Wednesday, March 2, 5-7pm.

Santi Moix: On som ara? is an exhibition of new works that are an explosion of biomorphic forms. Fantastical images combine the painter’s bold brushwork with a draftsman’s sensitivity to line. Creating colorful forms that resemble mandalas and foliage, Moix marries his two signature styles in monotype, which was chosen for its immediacy and directness. Several pieces include the addition of hand drawn collage elements.

Literature and art history are frequently points of departure in the artist’s work, culling imagery from historical manuscripts, American novels and his own œuvre. In this body of work, the gestural and abstract mingles with the figurative and botanical to produce a world that is Moix’s own. “My job is to freeze a moment in time, remove gravity,” says the artist, “The moment before a flower dies, before an explosion dissipates, and attempt to put the chaotic into order.”

Several of these new works will be on view concurrently in the project room at Pace Prints Chelsea, 521 West 26th Street.

Santi Moix was born in Barcelona in 1960 and lives and works in New York City. Recent solo exhibitions include “A Moment” at Paul Kasmin Gallery, New York; “a flowing fable” at Matthew Liu Fine Arts, Shanghai; “Brooklyn Studio” at M77 Gallery, Milan, Italy; and “Las Aventuras de Huckleberry Finn,” at Centro Cultural Fundación Cïrculo de Lectores, Barcelona, Spain. In 2013 he was commissioned to create a 200-foot mural at Prada’s SoHo Epicenter. His work is included in numerous private and public collections including the Brooklyn Museum, New York; Museo de arte Moderna de Sao Paulo, Brazil; and the Weatherspoon Art Museum, North Carolina.
