Pace Prints is pleased to present an exhibition featuring James Turrell's Suite from Aten Reign, the artist's newest suite of three aquatint etchings. The aquatint etching technique was chosen for its softly gradated tonal values to effect the transitional light central to Turrell's work.

As Pace Editions' master etching printer Bill Hall explains, the challenge in the making of the suite lay in, "Trying to reproduce with ink and paper something that's not tangible-light and color." The imagery in the suite was based on Turrell's 2013 monumental, site-specific installation Aten Reign at the Guggenheim Museum.

James Turrell was born in Los Angeles in 1943 and is the recipient of numerous awards, including The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation Fellowship in 1984 and the 2013 National Medal of Arts. Turrell has had major retrospectives in museums including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
