John Loring received a BA from Yale University in 1960 and studied for four years at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He received an Honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree from Pratt Institute and was a professor of art at the graduate school of the University of California. Since 1964, his prints and paintings have been exhibited in Europe and the United States. He has work in the following collections among others: The Museum of Modern Art in New York, The Whitney Museum of American Art, The Art Institute of Chicago, The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and Yale University.
