Pace Prints is pleased to present an exhibition in collaboration with Tandem Press of new monoprints by William Weege at its 32 East 57th Street Gallery, on view January 29–February 27, 2016. There will be an opening reception for the artist and the supporters of Tandem Press at the gallery on January 28, 5-7pm.
The exhibition features Weege’s newest series of abstract handmade paper works, titled Strange Winds Blow. Weege’s images are complex collages created using handmade paper, relief printing and hand-painting. The abstract iconography is full of motion, a collision and explosion of shapes throughout the works.
William Weege is a University of Wisconsin-Madison alumnus. He joined the faculty of the Art Department at the University in 1971. In 1987, he founded Tandem Press. He served on the faculty as a distinguished professor until his retirement in 1998, when he shifted focus to making art full-time.
Weege’s prints and works on paper are included in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, the Brooklyn Museum, the Kansas City Art Museum, The Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the British Museum.
