Sikkema Jenkins & Co. presents an exhibition of new work by Arturo Herrera, featuring the artist’s first paintings, on view from October 10 through November 15, 2014 with an opening reception October 9, 6-8pm.
Herrera’s work employs mediums as diverse as wood, collage, paper and felt. His most recent prints with Pace Editions were composed of nearly 100 elements printed on various papers, using an impressive range of printmaking techniques from aquatint to pochoir.
Arturo Herrera at Sikkema Jenkins & Co. includes works on linen, aluminum and canvas. The paintings are layered on found materials, such as cloth bags and thrift store paintings. These works challenge the traditional two-dimensionality of painting and leave the viewer with an almost sensual, clothing-like sense of the painting’s surface and the body below.
