James Turrell Revisits His Early Experiments With Light

James Turrell was featured in the Wall Street Journal for his exhibition of landmark light projections, currently on view in 67 68 69 at two Pace Gallery locations through June 18, 2016. The artist discusses his early experimentation with optics and perceptual psychology, which were seminal to the creation of subsequent works including Roden Crater in the Painted Hills region of the San Francisco volcanic field, Aten Reign at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and over 80 Skyspaces internationally.

"'Light is different than we normally see it,' Mr. Turrell said of ways the eye and mind can be tricked or misled. 'There are glimpses, when you see light and it has its own presence.' But more often, we tend to take light for granted or look through it rather than at it..."

An exhibition of prints by James Turrrell will be on view concurrently at both Pace Prints locations through June 11, 2016.
