Nina Chanel Abney in "Matisse Alive" at the Art Gallery of New South Wales

Pace Prints congratulates Nina Chanel Abney on the opening October 23, 2021, of "Matisse Alive" at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. The exhibition will remain on view through April 3, 2022.

Nina Chanel Abney's works will span five walls of the exhibition and are anchored by 19 new large-scale collages, created by the artist at Pace Prints' print shop. Following shows at numerous US institutions over the last four years, and an overseas début at the Palais de Tokyo, Paris, this is Abney's first museum exhibition in Australia.

From the museum:

"Matisse Alive offers visitors a unique chance to explore the life, art and influence of one of the world’s most celebrated artists, Henri Matisse, in the lead-up to and alongside the major, ticketed exhibition 'Matisse: Life & Spirit, Masterpieces from the Centre Pompidou, Paris', which opens on 20 November.

At the heart of Matisse Alive are four new artist projects by leading artists Nina Chanel Abney (US), Sally Smart (Australia), Angela Tiatia (Sāmoa/Australia) and Robin White (NZ) that present contemporary perspectives on this ‘modern master’ and focus especially on his imagining of the Pacific."
