It was announced this week that Mass MoCA will expand to become the second largest museum in the country, adding 90,000 square feet through partnerships with artists and other institutions. Light artist and current Pace Editions collaborator James Turrell will be given 35,000 square feet for the next 25 years to place 9-10 existing works. In addition, Turrell will create two new projects—a two-story version of his Ganzfeld work and a new “skyspace” created from a water tank.
As reported to the New York Times, Turrell states, “If you go there and see the Sol LeWitt installation, you’ll understand how meaningful it can be.” The exhibitions will begin to open in 2017.
