On November 7, James Turrell was honored at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art's fifth annual Art + Film Gala presented by Gucci. Academy award winning filmmaker Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu was also honored. Leonardo DiCaprio, who co-chaired the event, described Turrell’s “Perceptual Cell” saying it was "one of the most existential experiences I’ve ever had as an observer."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Innaritu praised Turrell as a 'poet of light.' Added Innaritu: 'We, as filmmakers, use light to reveal our stories. But for Mr. Turrell, light is the revelation itself, and that is sublime.'"
