Chuck Close's "Self-Portrait" (2015) woodcut took the artist four years to create, working with three master printers: Karl Hecksher, Justin Israels and Yasu Shibata. In this video, Pace Prints Director Rachel Gladfelter speaks to Israels about the process of creating this 24-wood block, 86-color print.
An exhibition of the wood blocks, progressive proofs and the final print is on view March 2–April 15, 2017, at Pace Prints, 521 West 26th Street.
